DescriptionA person lays on the slope of a sand dune at White Sands National Monument near Alamogordo, New Mexico. There are dunes in the background toward the mountains. There are long shadows on the dunes.
A typed caption on the back of the photograph reads, "A view of the White Sands at sunset. This great natural wonder covers 270 square miles. A portion of the Sands has been set aside as a National Monument. The great dunes are almost 100% pure gypsum an dresemble granulated sugar. The Sands are located about 19 miles west of Alamogordo, New Mexico, on U.S. Highway 70."
