DescriptionA car is parked in the grasses below the dunes of White Sands National Monument near Alamogordo, New Mexico. A man stands with a foot resting on the running board of the car. He is facing the dunes. There are plants and grasses growing along the dunes and in the foreground.
A typed caption on the back of the photograph reads, "White Sands National Monument near Alamogordo, New Mexico. The Sands come down abruptly to meet the mesa. Vegetation attempts vainly to keep its head above the sands but wages a losing fight. The Sand is really almost pure gypsum."
