DescriptionThree young women strap on skis to their feet at White Sands National Monument in Alamogordo, New Mexico. One woman stands to the left with skis over her shoulder and two ski poles in her right hand. Two other women work with skis to the right. The sand dunes go off in the background.A typed caption attached to the back of the photograph reads, "This isn't really a snow scene but one of teh sand dunes at White Sands National Monument in southern New Mexico. These young ladies find skiing on the sands great sport. The White Sands are a 30-miles desert of gleaming white sands made up of nearly 100% pure gypsum. The Sands are located about 18 miles south west of Alamogordo, New Mexico on U.S. Highway 70."
