DescriptionThree people on the top of a sand dune in White Sands National Monument in Alamogordo, New Mexico. There are ripples in the sand in the foreground. Dunes stretch into the background to the left of the frame. All three people are facing toward the left.
A typed caption on the back of the photograph reads, "A view of the White Sands at sunset. This great natural wonder covers 270 miles (square Miles). A portion of the Sands has been set aside as a National Monument. The grat dunes are almost 100% gypsum and resemble granulated sugar. The Sands are located about 18 miles west of Alamogordo, New Mexico, on U.S. Highway 70."
