Description1. White Sands National Monument, is one of the world's most spectacular deserts, with huge dunes of pure, white gypsym, covering 224 square miles. It is an excellent picnicking & recreational area. This is a picture of Play Day at the sands. However, we were not there on a play day.

2. Great wavelike dunes of gypsum sand - a vast undulating landscape of brilliant white - grace the floor of the Tularosa Basin of Southern N.M.

3. Created millions of years ago by downfaulting of a huge block of the earth's crust, the Tularosa Basin is surrounded by mts. & highlands.
