DescriptionThe interior of a room at the White Sands National Monument Administration Building in Alamogordo, New Mexico. There is a brick floor, adobe-style walls and vigas overhead. Tin chandeliers hang from the ceiling. Wooden tables and chairs are around the room and there is a fireplace to the right of the frame.A typed caption attached to the back of the photo reads, "Interior view of Administration Building at White Sands National Monument in southern New Mexico. A museum, lobby and library is provided for the thousands of visitors to White Sands. The sands cover 176,000 acres in the Tularosa Basin and have been piled into great dunes by prevailing winds over a period of thousands of years, forming one of the world's greatest natural wonders. The dunes are almost 100% pure gypsum and resemble granulated sugar. A portion of the Sands has been set aside fon U.S. Highway 70."
