DescriptionThis colorful map shows the territories of New Mexico, Utah, Texas, Mexico, and two extensive sections marked as Upper California and the Oregon Territory. Mountain ranges are drawn onto the map along with river systems and islands on the coast of California. New Mexico features as a thin line of land vertically along the Rio Grande. There is a border of interweaving thorny vines that wraps around the irregular polygon shape of the territories within the red border. Produced after the end of the American-Mexican War, the boundaries of these lands were still to be finalized at this point in history.
