DescriptionThis black and white photograph shows a group of young voting rights activists praying in front of the Dallas County Courthouse in Selma, Alabama. The group of Black youth are kneeling on the sidewalk in front of the courthouse. Their heads are bowed and their hands are clasped on their laps. They are wearing casual clothing. In front of the group on the left side of the photo, the edge of a white car is visible. "STATE TROOPER" has been printed on the side of the car. On the right side of the photograph, the sign "SHERIFF / CARS / ONLY" is mounted into the sidewalk in front of the demonstrators. Behind the group the bottom section of stone steps can be seen.
