DescriptionThis object is a self-restraining Jansen retractor often used during abdominal or pelvic operations. The object has two arms that each end in five-hooked forked tips that grasp and hold tissue apart. The arms themselves are slightly bowed inward, and are affixed at the base of the object to a perpendicular segment. A spherical connecting point is located below, and is raised or lowered by operating the oval-shaped thumb screw at the top of the object used to expand or retract the arms of the object. "PFAU'S AM. INST. Co / GERMANY" is stamped in small text on one side of the upper thumb screw. Initials "B.F.R." have been stamped at the base of one of the arms of the object. Mild levels of corrosion are visible on the upper screw and around the perpendicular bar located towards the center of the object. On View
