DescriptionThis hand-colored engraving maps panoramic views of the cities of Werden and Essen in modern-day Germany. The top view illustrates Werden, showcasing its abbey and the surrounding mountainous landscape with vivid details of buildings, fields, and the Ruhr River running through. A figure wields a handheld device surrounded by multiple boar in the foreground and a similar figure is on the other side of the river which has a bridge crossing it on the far right. The bottom view portrays Essen, focusing on its prominent churches, city walls, and the adjacent countryside. In the foreground, two hunters are in discussion and three horses pull a large cart away from the town. Both views are highly detailed and offer a glimpse into the architectural and urban layout of these cities during the late 16th century. There are decorative cartouches that frame the titles of each city view in the upper part of each map.On View
