DescriptionThis image depicts a Chital deer grazing in its enclosure at the Zoo in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The deer has its head lowered into a large patch of flowers near the fence on the right side of the frame. The deer's antlers are still covered in velvet which is the skin on the antlers that signals new growth. The visible portion of the deer's enclosure consists of a large dirt area dotted with large patches of flowers. The trunk of a single very young tree is also visible in the cage. The entire enclosure is surrounded by a metal mesh fence. The fence is held up by large wooden fence posts. The top of the posts is painted a light color while the bottom is a darker color. On View
