Zuni Pueblo artist Edna Leki produced art that is both traditional and deeply personal. She is believed to be the first modern female fetish carver among her people. Fetishes are representative ritual objects that are a traditional aspect of the rich Zuni religious cosmology. Leki’s Fetish Pot was not made as an explicitly ceremonial object, but rather as art. Nevertheless, there is a sense of the complex cultural heritage from which the work emerges, as well as the deeply personal inspiration that shaped its completely contemporary expression.

La artista zuni pueblo, Edna Leki, creó arte que al mismo tiempo es tradicional y personal. Se dice que ella fue la primera mujer talladora de fetiches de su pueblo. Los fetiches son objetos rituales representativos que constituyen un aspecto tradicional de la abundante cosmología religiosa zuni. La Vasija fetiche de Leki no se realizó para utilizarse como objeto expresamente para rituales, sino como pieza de arte. Sin embargo, podemos percibir la compleja herencia cultural de la que emerge, así como la profunda inspiración personal que dio forma esta expresión enteramente contemporánea.
