DescriptionThis map is on two sheets of paper each with the same dimensions. This half features western North America including the Island of California and the Vermillion Sea. In the top left, a cartouche of winged angels and cherubs surrounding figures of scientific progress with a sundial from the 17th century. The cartouche covers the area of North America northwest of New Mexico and California. The map features detailed geography of the Rio Grande with imagery along the way of mountain ranges, walled communities, and figures at work or in boats in the Gulf of Mexico. The named towns range from Santa Fe in the north to the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, with Albuquerque not existing for until the 18th century.
