A large crowd is gathered in the photograph which stretches into the background. In the foreground James Baldwin is wearing a checkered shirt and jacket. He is talking to a marcher with a plastic hood pulled over their head though his eyes are looking towards the viewer. At the left edge of the photograph is James Forman, a leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Forman is looking at baldwin and is wearing a white shirt.
