DescriptionThis badge, constructed of brass, ribbon, and paper, was distributed at the Fifteenth Annual Tri-State Firemen's Convention in Dolores, Colorado. The ribbon has a royal purple base color, clearly reading "Fifteenth / Annual / Tri-State / Firemens / Convention" in serifed, gold letters. In addition to the name of the convention, the pin also displays the convention's symbol, the convention's location, "Dolores, Colo." and the dates "Aug. 7-8", including the year "1953" all in the same serifed font and gold coloring. The top, golden-framed portion of the pin reads "W. A. Westerfeld / Albuquerque, N.M. / Chief" in courier-type lettering, indicating that the ribbon belonged to Albuquerque Fire Department Chief W. A. Westerfeld (1896-1962). Chief W. A. (Arthur) Westerfeld served as a firefighter in Albuquerque for forty-three years and was the head of the department for thirty-one years. The Albuquerque Fire Department was established in 1900 due to significant population growth and Albuquerque's risk of increasing fire hazards. On View
