Jeff Roller

born 1963; lives Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico
BiographyJeff Roller, born in 1963, is among the sixth generation of potters in the Tafoya family, from Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico’s Rio Grande River Valley.

As the son of Toni Roller and grandson of Margaret Tafoya, he was exposed to traditional pueblo pottery. He began making his own pottery at the age of nine. Growing up, Roller worked on pottery mostly during the summertime and exhibited his work alongside his mother at various shows.

As a young adult, Roller left his job as an engineering technician with the State of New Mexico and devoted himself full time to his work as an artist in 1988. His techniques include deep carving, etching, polished stone burnishing, and traditional wood burning firing. His designs often include sculpted animal figure lids and sculpted animal busts. Roller is also known for bronze sculptures.
