BiographyLaura Gachupin was born in 1954 on Jemez Pueblo. She is from a family of artists: her sister is Maxine Toya, her mother was Marie Romero, and her grandmother, and mentor, was Persingula Gachupin. Laura studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts. She started making pottery around 1978. She is known for traditional matte polychrome, polished redware and buffware jars, melon bowls, kiva bowls, turtle bowls, effigy jars, vases, wedding vases, seed pots, Kiva bowls, animal and human figures, owls and miniatures.
