Shirley Tafoya

Shirley Tafoya (Cactus Blossom), the youngest daughter of potters Alcario and Margaret Tafoya, was born in Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico in 1947. She is the sister of LuAnn Tafoya. She began making pottery for the market around 1971, after working as a medical technician. She is known for red and black carved miniatures, often based on the large vessels produced by her mother. Tafoya trained other members of the Tafoya family in pottery making.
