BiographyLes Namingha is a Hopi and Zuni potter born in 1968 on Zuni Pueblo to a Hopi father, Emerson Namingha, and Zuni mother, Irene Vicenti. He has deep family ties to pottery. His father, Emerson Namingha, is the son of Rachel Nampeyo, grandson of Annie Healing, and great grandson of Nampeyo of Hano. Les Namingha learned how to make pottery from his aunt, master potter Dextra Quotskuyva. He earned a B.A. in design from Brinham Young University. Namingha combines traditional Hopi and Zuni motifs with modernist influences, and has been working to help revive some of older Zuni designs and styles. He is known for frequently using small tightly painted details and using a variety of textures and materials.
