DescriptionThis image depicts a scene at the Isleta Pueblo located two miles south of Albuquerque, New Mexico on Highway 85. In this scene is a barbed wire fence in the foreground, a small wooden shade on the right side of the frame, an adobe wall stretching off the left side of the frame, a single mule near the wooden gate in the wall, and another wooden shade behind the wall with a large pile of drying corn stalks on its roof. In the far background, a windmill, and two other wooden shades with piles of drying corn stalks on their roofs can be seen. The floor is made of dirt that has been packed down over time by constant use.The inscription on the back of the photograph reads "A scene at Isleta Indian Pueblo. Located 2 miles south of Albuquerque, N. Mex. on U.S. Highway 85. The Indians have their own method of drying corn stalks which they use for fodder".
