DescriptionThe plat map shows the relationship of Albuquerque's Old and New Towns relative to the Río Grande including plated square areas and a guide to reading the map on the right side. This document was produced as part of a petition that New Mexico surveyed four square leagues (17.2 square miles) of land, and asked Congress to approve the claim. The claim was disallowed, based on the lack of an original founding document and testimony in 1712 reporting that individual, not communal, lands were granted in 1706. The two towns are titled "Albuquerque" and "New Albuquerque." The map also places the historic plaza and neighborhood of Barelas, where many railroad workers lived. On View
