DescriptionThis black and white photograph shows a marcher sleeping in the mud in Lowndes County, Alabama during the Selma to Montgomery march. The photograph is taken close to the feet of the marcher so that their head and most of the ground around them cannot be seen. The marcher is sleeping on a sleeping bag that has been laid over a clear plastic tarp. There ground beneath the tarp is muddy and grassy. The marcher's body is covered with a white blanket and another clear plastic tarp. Only their ankles and feet can be seen. They are wearing dark pants with light colored socks and shoes that are heavily coated in mud and strips of grass. The mud covers most of the shoe.On View
