DescriptionFolk Singer and activist Pete Seeger plays his flute during a rest break in Lowndes County during the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in this black and white photograph. Seeger and three other people sit on the pavement of a paved road. Seeger is laying down on his back wearing a button up shirt and dark sunglasses as he holds a flute or piccolo in both hands above his face, his legs are not in the photograph frame. Next to him another man is lying down on his jacket. This man is lying on his side with his head propped up on his elbow looking at Seeger. He is wearing a white shirt and dark pants. Above seeger is a person sitting with his head turned towards seeger. This person is wearing a striped button up shirt and dark pants. At the top of the photograph the legs of some of the marchers can be seen, but their bodies are out of the frame.
