DescriptionJohn Lewis, Dr. Martin Luther King, and other marchers are walking on the third day of the five day march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in this black and white photograph. The photo is dark in lighting. The top half of the photo shows the marchers on a dirt path as the walk towards a dirt road on the right side of the photo. The photo is taken so that the marchers are walking in profile of the viewer, only the right side of their bodies can be seen. They are marching from left to right across the photograph. The men on the left half of the photo are wearing suits or white t-shirts and dark pants. Tw of the marchers are each carrying a flag of the United States of America. Just right of center is another group of marchers wearing more casual clothing. John Lewis is one of these men, he is wearing a sweater and dark pants. In front of him is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wearing a light-colored shirt, dark pants, and a light colored cap. On the right side of the photo an old truck is driving forward toward the viewer on a road. Behind the marchers is a background of country, trees, and telephone poles. At the bottom quarter of the photograph is a large puddle of water. The water reflects the silhouettes of the marchers as well as the clouds above them.On View
