BiographyJean Sahme Nampeyo is a Hopi-Tewa potter who was born into the Nampeyo family of potters in 1948. Her great grandmother was Annie Healing Nampeyo, whose mother was Nampeyo of Hano. She learned pottery making from her mother, Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo, and grandmother, Rachel Namingha Nampeyo. She has seven siblings, all of whom are potters or Katsina doll carvers: Sahmie, Rachel Sahmie, Bonnie Chapella, Randy Sahmie, Andrew Sahmie, Foster Sahmie and Finkle Sahmie.
