Randy Charging Bear

born 1958 Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota
Biography"Under his grandmother's Lakota Sioux name, Randy crafts dolls recalling his Native American heritage. His warriors, dancers, men, and women are made of natural materials and are carved with piercing eyes and not mouths - evoking a sense of dignity. Randy began carving his arresting figures in 1980, after studying with Nick Fast Horse and John Siers, his father-in-law and a full-blooded Sioux from the Pine Reservation. He got his desire for perfection from his father and his straight eye for lazy stitch beading from his mother, who constructed star quilts and beaded belt buckles and medallions.
