DescriptionThis metal campaign features a black base color while "LANDON" is read in bold, yellow lettering. Below this, a yellow elephant is pictured, a symbol widely associated with the Republican Party, with the words "GOP" in black lettering in the center. The bottom portion reads "KNOX" in the same yellow lettering. Running alongside Alf Landon (1887-1987) was Frank Knox (1874-1944), formerly a part of First United States Cavalry, widely known as Rough Riders. Although they faced defeat against Democratic opponent Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945), Knox would be appointed Secretary of the Navy from 1940 to the year of his death in 1944 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt during WWII. Knox significantly influenced the expansion of the U.S. Navy and encouraged military preparedness. Playing a role in developing a changing political landscape, the 1936 election proved to be impactful, notably in the realm of promoting and establishing future social policies. On View
