BiographyAlfred Mossman Landon (1887-1987) was an American politician and the 26th Governor of Kansas from 1933 to 1937. A member of the Republican Party, Landon gained national attention as the party’s candidate in the 1936 presidential election, where he was decisively defeated by incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt. Known for his moderate and pragmatic political views, he opposed some of Roosevelt's New Deal policies but supported reforms in certain areas, such as Social Security. After his presidential loss, Landon remained active in politics and was an influential voice in the Republican Party, particularly on foreign policy. He lived to be 100 years old, passing away in 1987.
