DescriptionThis metal campaign pin features a white, circular border that reads " 'WIN WITH' " in large, red lettering on the top portion. A lithograph-printed portrait of Wendell Willkie (1892-1944) is illustrated in the center, with the words "WILKIE" in bold, blue lettering just below the image, although this misprint pin contains a misspelling of the former candidate's surname. Running for president alongside Charles L. McNary (1874-1944), Willkie lost to Democratic opponent Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945). Playing a role in continuing to develop a changing political landscape, the 1940 election, specifically the re-election of incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt for a controversial third term, proved to be notable, impacting the continuation of the New Deal, leading the U.S. through the tumultuous WWII period, and reinforcing global leadership.
