DescriptionThis campaign button was created for Alfred Landon’s 1936 presidential run, in which he faced off against incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt. Landon, who had previously served as the Governor of Kansas, was soundly defeated, securing only 8 electoral votes compared to Roosevelt’s 523. The Republican Party’s loss in this election marked one of the most significant landslides in U.S. history. Despite his defeat, Landon’s campaign remains a notable part of American political history. The button is white with a felt yellow sunflower extension protruding from behind the button. The Button has a blue image of the Republican party elephant, holding an American Flag in it's trunk with "GOP" written on its back. Beneath the elephant, there is a line of red text that reads "UNITED."On View
