DescriptionThis image depicts Maria Chiwiwi inserting a wooden paddle into an horno in an area of the Isleta Pueblo located two miles south of Albuquerque, New Mexico on Highway 85. The woman is wearing a plaid shirt, a dark colored poncho, leather shoes, and leg wrappings. The woman is on the right and the horno on the left. The rounded entrance of the horno is blackened from the heat inside. Another stick with a blackened end can be seen leaning against the outside of the horno. A small wooden basket can be seen on the floor near the woman's feet. Several adobe homes can be seen in the far background on the other side of a large empty courtyard. On View
