DescriptionThis is a decorative beer stein with many embellishments and engravings. The stein is shaped like a wide cylinder with a widened base and a curved semi-circle handle on the side and a domed lid. The handle is connected to the lid via a metal hinge and that has a decorative thumb press on top. The handle is tan with a blue and white floral border on all three outside areas. The press is made of silver metal in the shape of a man wearing armour, he is holding a poleaxe in one hand and blowing a curved horn with the other. The lid itself is made entirely of metal that has been engraved, it has three tiers. There are two decorative border designs around the edge of the bottom tier and the edge of the center tier respectively, and there is a center image that has also been engraved. The image is on the top tier and is of a large male lion wearing a crown with his jaw open and claws extended. A curved wreath is around the lion's body. The front of the lid juts out in a wide triangle, this covers the pouring hole on the cup. The rim of the stein is thick and white, below it are two decorative borders, one tan and one blue with a scale-like pattern. The base has another blue border with a dark-brown border underneath and another blue line on the very bottom. The main body is taken up by one colorful main image that stretches around the sides of the stein. The left side shows a man in medieval clothing standing in a doorway with a poleaxe and a lantern has a dog stands underneath him. The room is drawn to look of stone with wooden floorboards. A cat and a basket with wine bottles are further into the foreground. The front shows a woman and three men in that same room in the same style of clothing. There is an iron chandelier on the ceiling has well has dice and cups on the table where the men are sitting. The men are all looking towards the man in the doorway and lifting their hands or metal cups towards him, the women stands behind the open door. The right side shows two more men looking the same direction has the others, one is sitting at the table and the other is standing wearing an apron with keys on the belt. Below this image is a blue scale-like border and then a thick blue area with writing on the side. The writing reads: “HÖRT IHR HERRN UND LASST EUCH SAGEN: DIE GLOCK HAT EINS GESCHLAGEN” (LISTEN MEN AND LET ME TELL YOU, THE CLOCK HAS STRUCK ONE).
