DescriptionThis is a decorative beer stein with many embellishments and engravings. The stein is shaped like a wide cylinder with a curved semi-circle handle on the side and a domed lid. The handle is connected to the lid via a metal hinge and that has a decorative thumb press on top. The handle is dark blue and connects at the top rim and the very base of the cup. The press is made of silver metal and is shaped like an owl perched on a stack of two books. When pressed down the hinge lifts the lid open so the stein can be used. The rim of the lid is metal and covers the outside curve. The center of the lid has a brown border and a cream center. Around the inside of the border is a wreath of brown and green leaves. Within this wreath is a hammer and a chisel crossed at their handles. At the very top the words "GLÜCK AUF!" (GOOD LUCK) are written in decorative black writing. The top and bottom borders of the stein are the same dark blue has the handle. At the top, near the rim, the symbol "1/2 L" is written showing the amount of volume the stein can hold. The main image on the stein is a row of books that wraps around the cup. The books are drawn facing outwards so that only their spines can be seen, has if they were lined up on a shelf. They vary in color from cream to dark brown, and have different brightly colored titles. Each title has the name in German, and the author has well has a date on some. Most of the spines also have gold embellishments and designs. Underneath the stein is the maker's mark for Villeroy & Boch, has well has the product number 2001.
