DescriptionThis color photograph is of theoretical physicist Doyne Farmer with a written inscription and signature by Farmer underneath. Farmer is posing with his arms crossed in a chair at a desk.

The inscription reads:

Reality is God. Consciousness is a set of patterns resulting from the interactions between a lot of neurons -- who says anything else has to exist? But the conceptual simplicity of the belief that we belong to an objective world is so appealing that we make a leap of faith and believe in reality, with regularities that we can perceive and describe with science and mathematics. As part of reality, we have the great privilege of being able to perceive reality. This is what makes us different from rocks. The quest for mathematical form, for the underlying principles of organization that go beyond people, beyond earth, through time, is the study of God Herself. Science is my religion, and reality is my God.
