DescriptionThis paper Champion Grocery Receipt Book is a compact, functional artifact from early-20th century Albuquerque, tied to the Champion Grocery store located at 622-624 West Tijeras Avenue. The proprietor, A. Matteucci, is prominently noted on the cover, alongside the store’s establishment year, 1900. The store offered a butchery as well as a grocery and advertised in Spanish and English before closing in 1938. The telephone numbers 150 and 151 reflect the early days of telephone communication in the area. One side of the book features a series of blank, numbered pages, each with 16 evenly spaced lines, designed for recording itemized transactions. Opposite this is a book number tracking sheet, allowing the user to monitor up to 50 entries—a practical system for bookkeeping. The booklet showcases simple yet effective organization, capturing the meticulous record-keeping practices of Albuquerque businesses in the early 1900s.
