DescriptionSheriff James G. Clark Jr. of Dallas County, Alabama sits in his car speaking on a telephone in this black and white photograph. Clark is turned in his seat looking towards the back of the car. He holds a telephone next to his ear and mouth with both hands. Clark is informing Alabama Govenor George Wallace that the march from Selma to Montgomery is begninning. He is wearing a hat with a suit, there is a pin on his chest and a watch on his left wrist. The inside of the car can be seen in the photograph, and there is a radio speaker visible on the front dahsboard. The background is unfocused and blurry, but buildings and cars can be seen along with two men walking.
