Wallace became Vice President in 1940, where he took on additional responsibilities, including overseeing the Board of Economic Welfare. On the global stage, he played a key role in strengthening relationships with Latin America, China, and the Soviet Union. Although he was not selected for a second vice-presidential term in 1944, Wallace later briefly served as Secretary of Commerce.
