BiographyAn Acoma potter born on February 8, 1928, Rose Chino Garcia was trained in potter by her mother, Marie Z. Chino, a reknowned Acoma potter. She is the sister of Gilbert Chino, Carrie Chino Charlie, Vero Chino Ely, Grace Chino, Patrick Chino and Jody Chino. She taught her daughter, Tena Garcia, pottery. Rose Chino Garcia was active mostly sometime around 1967 to the 1990s and is most known for traditional polychrome and black-on-white fineline jarbs, bowls, seed pots, vases, wedding vases, plates and turtle effigy canteens. Some of her most frequestn designs include deer with heartlines, parrots, flowers, rain, clouds, potsherds, lightning, and snowflakes. While Rose Chino Garcia began using her mother's designs, she also innovated new designs and shapes. Her works are in collections including the Peabody Museum and the Heard Museum.
