BiographyAcoma potter Stella Shutiva (1939-1997) is the sister of Anita Lowden and daughter of noted potter Jessie Garcia, who is credited with reviving the corrugated ware. Shutiva learned the technique after watching her mother and experimenting. Shutiva’s husband, Ernest Shutiva, is also a potter and the sometimes collaborated. She taught pottery making to her daughters, Jackie Shutiva Histia and Sandra Shutiva Garcia, as well as Sandra’s husband, Wilfred Garcia. Stella Shutiva is known for thin-walled pottery and corrugated pottery vessels.
