DescriptionThis map is a 1598 edition of Girolamo Ruscelli's Nueva Hispania Tabula Nova, published in Venice. It is an early interpretation of the geography in the South of America and Mexico and contains the names of different towns along the coasts of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, here labeled the South Sea. Hills and small turreted buildings mark hills and inhabited communities respectively. It is uncolored with full original margins and the top is slightly trimmed. It is printed on handmade rag-laid paper with a solid line across the upper middle of the map.
