DescriptionThis small, pine wood side chair includes spindle stretchers and a carved lower back rail. The chair is made with open and closed mortise and tenon construction and reinforced with pegs. The seat has one large front plank and one narrow back plank pegged to the frame. The front plank of the seat is cut out around the front legs with aprons on the front and sides. The front legs are curved with “knees” above the top stretcher and a concave curve to the feet, while the back posts curve backward above the seat. The top back rail is gently curved and angled backward. The back bottom rail is angled backward, and seven stretchers are spindle-carved.On View
