DescriptionThis side chair is constructed of hand-cut wood. Open and closed mortise and tenon construction is reinforced with pegs. The seat is a single, long front piece of wood and one narrow back piece pegged to the frame. The front plank of the seat is cut out around the front legs. The top back rail is openly curved and angled backwards. The bottom back rail is angled backwards and curved, while the four top stretchers appear to be thin and spindly. The bottom front stretcher is carved from a thick flat piece of wood that is slightly rounded on the top edge.
