DescriptionThis small wooden Cochiti silleta or chair incorporates a zig-zag center splat and is constructed of hand-adzed and planed wood, open mortice, and is reinforced with wooden pegs. The top back rail is set into two posts and is curved with six sets of lines segmented in the center and along the bottom line. The rail also features a small crown, while the top is connected to the plain lower back rail by a spindle, which is carved with interlocking diamonds. The back legs form posts and begin curving back at the seat. The seat is made of a single board pegged to the lower side and front rails. The round stretcher bars are attached by open mortise and tenon construction on all four sides. On View
