DescriptionThis wooden Windsor chair was handcrafted in 1915, during a period when American carpenters and furniture makers played a pivotal role in shaping a distinct cultural identity, as regional styles and design traditions began to emerge across the United States. Constructed entirely from varnished wood, the chair has aged over time, with areas of wear revealing the raw material beneath. The backrest features five vertical rails supported by two main pillars and is crowned with a solid, rounded-edge crest rail. The seat is subtly contoured for comfort, while the four legs are delicately turned, each carved into three rounded segments in the classic style. Horizontal stretchers connect the legs, providing both structural support and visual balance. This chair stands as an excellent example of early 20th-century American craftsmanship, embodying the evolving aesthetic and cultural values of the era.
