DescriptionThis large map focuses extensively on river systems and geographic relief areas to track the Arkansas, Rio Grande, And Gila Rivers as part of a military reconnaissance. Overlooking the cities the rivers go through, instead the map outlines Indigenous communities such as "Navahoes" and Apaches. Albuquerque is shown as "Alburquerqui." The mountain ranges along the route are drawn on and along the top is a profile relief map to show water elevation. There is an extensive note in the center outlining who was in charge of depicting each area. The cartographer, W. H. Emory was a lieutenant in the army and the map title describes him as their top engineer in the lower right.
