DescriptionThis Presidential Campaign Medal thanks the recipient for support of the 1972 presidential campaign of Richard Nixon. Nixon served one full term and resigned during his second term in 1974 after audio tapes confirmed his involvement in Watergate, a plot to break into his political opponent's office to steal important documents. Nixon is an important president in American history, as he is remembered for his administration's involvement in the Vietnam War, being the only president to resign and serving during the first moon landing in 1969. The medal is encased in a frame with text that reads "With personal appreciation/for your generous support/of our 1972 campaign." Beneath the text is Richard Nixon's signature. The metal has a side profile image of Nixon with "RICHARD M. NIXON" running around the edge. The back of the medal has the elephant symbol of the Republican party and text that reads "RE-ELECT THE PRESIDENT / 1972." On the back of the frame, below the medal text reads "THE OFFICIAL / REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE / 1972 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN MEDAL" and "SOLID BRONZE - LIMITED EDITION/MINTED BY THE FRANKLIN MINT."
