DescriptionA studio portrait of Mrs. Ross Van Riper at the Cobb Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She poses in front of a painted backdrop in a floor-length dark colored gown. The skirt has layers of ruffles along the bottom. The neckline is wide and loos, falling off the shoulders, and lined with layers of ruffles. The dress is tied around the shoulders with velvet ribbons. She wears a multi-strand necklace of pearls around the neck. She wears thin metal bracelets around each wrist and holds a closed feathered fan in the right hand at hip height. The left-hand rests on the top of the head. Her hair is curled and pulled away from the face in a bun. On top of the head is a small jeweled and beaded headpiece. She smiles at the camera, head tilted, and smiles. This woman is the sister of George Miles, and is a sister-in-law of Fannie Ross, a daughter of Governor Edmund G. Ross.
