DescriptionThis Spanish Mission-style chair was produced around 1650 and is made of wood and leather. The piece reflects the power and dominance of the Spanish Empire in the 17th century, with its delicately detailed floral and biblical leather seat and backrest. Prominent metal pins secure the leather in place, lining the edges of the seat and the rails of the backrest. Two metal floral figures are positioned above the ears of the chair on each side. The four legs are joined by horizontal rails, each decorated with floral carvings. The entire piece shows significant signs of wear: the wood throughout the chair is eroding, and there is a prominent hole in the main leather panel of the backrest. On View
