DescriptionThis kitchen Shaker chair was produced in 1900 from oak wood and natural plant fibers. The Shaker chair is identifiable by the continuous rail of wood that runs vertically, forming the two back legs and supporting the backrest. This style of chair grew in prominence in the early 20th century within the United States, as its sturdy design made the seat more durable and stable. Three horizontal rails span the backrest, with the top rail carved with floral designs that run across the full width of the panel. The seat is made of delicately woven natural plant fibers, supported by wooden panels. The four legs are tapered and connected by eight supporting rails. This chair not only underscores a distinct era in American furniture design but also highlights the precision and attention to detail with which furniture was crafted in the early 20th century. On View
