DescriptionThis rectangular cardboard box features a natural tan with black and red printed lettering. The front prominently displays the text “No. 1 Hotchkiss Patented” with an illustration of a single staple. The phrase “The Non-Clogging Staple” is emphasized in bold red letters. A smaller caption reads “None Others Genuine,” underscoring the exclusivity of the product. Below this, it states, “This box contains 500 Staples for Hotchkiss No. 1 Automatic Paper Fastener,” and from 1896, the connected staples show signs of rusting. The box lid features an intricate line drawing of a row of connected staples, paired with a hand-held paper fastener illustration. The lower text reads, “The E. H. Hotchkiss Company, Norwalk, Conn., U.S.A.,” and describes the company as the “Manufacturers of the Hotchkiss Automatic Paper Fasteners and Staples.” The phrase “None Genuine Without Our Registered Trade Mark” in bold red serves as a trademark statement. On View
